National Parks & Reserves

What to see and do in the Blue Mountains National Park.

There are almost unlimited opportunities for quiet recreational activity in the park ranging from bird watching, picnicking, bushwalking, camping, and for more adventurous rock climbing and abseiling and canyoning. Special restrictions and licensing of tour operators in the region assure visitors of world class safety and environmental care in this spectacular park.

The park is famous for many graded walks, with a large portion of them developed when the Blue Mountains was the tourist Mecca of Australia.

Historic walks like the National pass at Wentworth Falls (c 1907) traverse the cliffs by accessing a ledge of rock half way down the vertical cliff.

The walks in the Blue Mountains National Park make exceptional use of the natural landscape to link areas of special significance offering young and old the opportunity to experience the grandeur of the area.

You may wish to go along with a Ranger/Guide from the National Parks and wildlife service.

As part of a state-wide program Blue Mountains Discovery is an informative and educational program of events and activities for visitors to the park. You can join in a range of events and walks, talks, tours and eco-tours designed for all the family. The program can tailor activities to suit school , community and special interest groups.

Discovery is for everyone who wants to find out more about the environment and how we can help care for it.
