SAFETY TIPS

Walking in the parks should be fun and safe if you follow some basic guidelines.

  • Plan the trip carefully. Contact the local NPWS office for the park to obtain more information. How difficult will the walk be? How long will it take ?

  • Tell a friend, relative or the local NPWS office where you're going and when you’ll be back.
  • Check local conditions. Is there a total fire ban or park fire ban?
  • Bring your own water.
  • For day and overnight walks take the right gear
  • carry enough food and water for the trip
  • make sure you have appropriate clothing, including warm and waterproof clothes
  • carry a first-aid kit with bandages
  • take a map of the area
  • wear sunscreen and a hat
  • bring a plastic bag for taking rubbish away.
